Consider two populations I and II. Suppose that 80 percent of the men and 30 percent of the women in population I have a certain characteristic, and that only 60 percent of the men and 10 percent of the women in population II have the characteristic. Explain how, under these conditions, it might be true that the proportion of population II having the characteristic is larger than the proportion of population I having the characteristic.
