A gastrointestinal stromal tumor is a rare form of cancer that develops in muscle tissue and blood vessels within the stomach or small intestine. In a study, 600 subjects had surgery to remove the tumor. For one year after surgery, 300 subjects took a drug and 300 subjects took a placebo. The results are shown below. At α = 0.10, can you support the claim that the proportion of subjects who are cancer-free after one year is greater for subjects who took the drug than for subjects who took a placebo? Are You Cancer-Free One Year After Surgery? (a) Identify the claim and state H0 and Ha, (b) Find the critical value(s) and identify the rejection region(s), (c) Find the standardized test statistic z, (d) Decide whether to reject or fail to reject the null hypothesis, (e) Interpret the decision in the context of the original claim. Assume the samples are random and independent. If convenient, use technology.
